Our Story

Portpatrick Farm Holidays was founded by the Beck Family in 2004 as a way of diversifying their farm business and sharing the beauty of the location with visitors to the area.  The reasons?  That the views from the farm had to be shared and would also offer guests the unique experience of staying on a farm.  The location also offered a great base for exploring the South West of Scotland.

Father John Beck, who moved to the farm in 1968 was very active in both the farm and holiday business until well into his nineties.  He would quite often welcome guests by offering them a wee dram of whisky and a story or two about rural life!

Since opening the doors to the public, there has been thousands of guests who have visited our small site and stayed with us, many of whom are now return customers and good friends.

Today, the farm, holiday accommodation and touring site are managed by Ian, John's son and his partner Kay.  The same principles still apply - a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, views to die for and the chance to learn a wee bit about our farm, -  educate about rural life, farming and sustainability (with many of our practices on site helping to do that)  From home made farm products, spending time with guests educating them about what we are doing on the farm and letting them experience some things for themselves, there is plenty to do!

As a commercial sheep farmer, Ian also has an interest in rare breed sheep so these, plus our commercial sheep surround the holiday site. Kay has 18 lovely red ladies who produce fresh free range eggs daily for our farm and guests.  From Easter through to the back end of the holiday season, lambs jump around the fields and are just a joy to watch!
